WWII USS "Pine Island" Seaplane Tender Ship Kit (Revell) *SOLD*
[RARE]
$85.00

(Sorry, Out of stock...SOLD for $85.00) WWII USS "Pine Island" Seaplane Tender Ship, by Revell. INCREDIBLE...this is one of the most memorable of Revell's "S" Kits of the 50's (this is the 1993 Revell US version, but RARE nonetheless). This ship comes with moving cranes, a detailed hanger bay and a Martin PBM-5 Mariner Seaplane! Factory sealed box...100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. MINT CONDITION, UNBUILT. The "Pine Island", the Navy's only seaplane tender, first saw action in the Pacific at the end of World War II, providing support during the 1945 occupation of Japan. In 1947 she was deployed as part of "Operation Highjump" in the Antarctic area. She contributed to the aerial exploration of the South Pole, and saved several downed aviators from the hostile climate. She was brought out of mothballs in the early 1950's to see duty in the Korean War. Between 1964 - 1966 she saw duty in the Vietnam War before her retirement in 1967. An incredible ship, a storied career, and a simply great model kit. Hats off to the greatness that was Revell! Out of stock.
