(Sorry, out of stock...SOLD for $155.00) Original Fort Apache Carry-All Action Playset, by Marx. WOW!! One of the legendary Marx playsets...Fort Apache, resplendent with cowboys, indians, horses and all accessories. From over 40 years ago comes this, the litho-tin "Carry-All" version which folds up into a nifty carrying case. Set is type #4685 in G-VG condition...the case has some negligible shelf-wear type scratches here and there, nothing major...it is, after all, from 1968, and that's a long time ago, pilgrim! The box unfolds into the walls of the mighty Fort Apache, a bold outpost in injun territory back in the days of the old West. The 18 1/2" x 26" playfield became the forum for the imaginations of thousands of 60's kids, acting out scenes from John Wayne and Richard Widmark westerns, waging battle between brown and blue plastic cowboys and indians. Louis Marx & Co. was the leading manufacturer of toys in the US...Louis Marx was known as the "toycoon" in those days, and was even featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1955 surrounded by his products. This set includes: 40 indians (brown), 23 "Davy Crockett" type, blue plastic settlers and cowboys (strangely, there are no "wimminfolk" amongst them...hmmmmm....perhaps Fort Apache was near Brokeback Mountain!?), 2 battlement tower corner structures (2 pieces each, in brown), 1 indian teepee, 1 litho-tin American flag with pole and stand, 2 climbing ladders, 1 cannon, 1 horse-drawn wagon (with 2 horses, driver and accessories), 2 woodpiles, 1 bucket, 1 axe in log, 1 butter churn, 1 anvil, 3 totem poles, and 6 horses!! Whew! That's all that you needed on a rainy Saturday afternoon to put on your own version of "How the West was Won". These sets are a true rarity these days, especially with so many original figures and accessories...don't let this one go to some other collector! Oops, you're too late. Out of stock.
