Vintage 1970's Astro Boy / Mighty Atom Ray Gun *SOLD*
[RARE]
$55.00

(Sorry, out of stock...SOLD for $55.00) Vintage 1970's Astro Boy / Mighty Atom Ray Gun...which actually is a functioning squirt gun! This mean, green beauty from 30 years ago has the perky visage of none other than Astro Boy himself sculpted on the gun's grip. Originally known as Mighty Atom, Astro Boy was the creation of the Japanese "God of Manga" Osamu Tezuka, dating back to 1952. The character was a robot boy, created by the scientist Dr. Tenma when his own son Tobio was killed in a traffic accident. Mighty Atom/Astro Boy later turned up in a circus, having been sold by Dr. Tenma. He then was placed in the care of the brilliant but daffy Dr. Elefun (if you remember the TV show, he was the one with the big nose and Larry Fine hair). It aired on Japanese television, and then was picked up in the States by NBC (!)...104 episodes were translated into english and he was renamed "Astro Boy". What a great series! Who could forget the exaggerated perspective every time Dr. Elefun pointed his finger? Or that noise that Astro Boy made with every robotic footstep?! Mr. Pop Top fondly remembers this show from childhood (it aired between 1963-1966) and was probably influenced greatly by it...the storyline, you see, was a twisted update of "Pinocchio"! Historically speaking, the show had the distinction of being the very first Japanese sci-fi anime to be shown in the US. Astro Boy also battled some of the coolest robots and monsters from episode to episode...and that theme song! It still echoes in my head. "Go, go, go Astro Boy!!" all sung by some kids' chorus in a very echoey room. Anyway, this ray gun is in top shape and is definitely ready to fight bad guys with...make it part of your collection today! Out of stock.
