Ultraman, Defender of the Universe, from Dreamworks. This is the GREAT action figure of Ultraman, one of Mr. Pop Top's all-time favorites. This one is MINT-IN-BOX, BOX is C-10, with ALL INSERTS and accessories, including an extra figure of Ultraman's secret identity. I grew up on watching the original 40-episode "Ultraman" series on Washington, D.C.'s grainy UHF channel WDCA-20. It was part of a block of shows such as Scooby-Doo, Kimba the White Lion, Johnny Socko and his Flying Robot, Speed Racer etc., hosted between by the silver-garbed "Captain 20" (most famously played by the legendary Dick Dyszel, who was also Bozo and Count Gore DeVol). Captain 20 had a thing about gerbil races...but that is a tale for another day, my friends. The original 1966 "Ultraman" series' storyline begins in the near future (early 1990's!) Sinister aliens and guys in rubber monster suits constantly threaten civilization during this period. The only Earth organization equipped to handle these disasters is the Science Special Search Party (SSSP), a special police force with branches all over the world, and equipped with high-tech weapons and vehicles, as well as extensive scientific and engineering facilities. The branch of the Science Patrol that is focused on in the series is located in Tokyo, Japan. I seem to recall that they drove around in a Chevy Corsair that had antlers on the front of it!! (haven't seen the show for years, so my recollection of this may be fuzzy). Led by Captain Mura, the Science Patrol is always ready to protect the Earth from rampaging monsters, but sometimes finds itself over-matched. When the situation becomes desperate, Hayata, the Patrol's most capable member, holds the key to salvation in the form of a power-object called a "Beta Capsule", which, when ignited, allows him to transform secretly into the amazing, super-humanoid-powered giant from space—ULTRAMAN!! While active as Ultraman, Hayata's human body goes into a type of deep coma, reviving only after the threat has been neutralized and Ultraman willingly departs. Victory is never assured, however, as Ultraman's powers—his very life force—comes from rapidly depleted, stored solar energy. At the beginning of each transformation from Hayata-to-Ultraman, the warning light on the giant's chest begins as a steady blue color. Yet as Ultraman exerts himself, the Color Timer changes to red, then blinks—slowly at first, then with increasing rapidity—as his energy reserves get closer to exhaustion. As the voice-over narration reminds the viewer—if Ultraman ever reaches the point of total energy depletion, he "will never rise again." WOW! What a fantastic show. And Mr. Pop Top will never forget the swirly paint (filmed in reverse-motion) that formed the "Ultraman" title to begin the show...a ground-breaking intro for the late 60's. Anyway, as usual, I digress...we have for your purchasing pleasure in The Pop Top Shop this great MIB Ultraman from almost 20 years ago (8" tall figure). Only one in stock.
