1962 S.S.N. "Nautilus" Submarine Kit (Aurora)
[RARE]
$165.00

S.S.N. "Nautilus" Submarine Kit, by Aurora. Hey, Poptoppers...here is an ORIGINAL and UNBUILT 1962 Aurora kit of the world's FIRST nuclear submarine, the United States Navy's S.S.N.-571 "Nautilus"! The box is PERFECT, all parts inventoried 100% complete, along with original instructions and decals...you could build this GREAT 1/300 scale kit (with display stand) as either the "Nautilus" OR the "Sea Wolf"!! These EARLY Aurora kits were built well with heavy plastic molding and straightforward building instructions...they were enjoyable for both the experienced model-builder and the young hobbyist alike. I know, first hand...ol' Mr. Pop Top built many of these Aurora kits as a child of the 60's. This "Nautilus" kit is a classic, and a real slice of Cold War era pop-culture: she was launched in 1954, when the Red Scare was at fever pitch. The headlines of that era were always full of the exploits of the U.S. Navy's first nuclear-powered sub, setting endurance records, able to rapidly go under the Polar ice cap, going distances without surfacing or refueling that were unheard of with conventional engines, participating in the blockade of Cuba during the 1962 missile crisis..."Nautilus" constantly rattled the cage of the Russian Bear! The "Nautilus" was the pride of the fleet until her decommissioning in 1980...she is now a museum ship in Groton, Connecticut. This wonderful model kit is a piece of history...make it yours today! Only one in stock.
