(Sorry, out of stock...SOLD for $85.00) Vintage 1961 Mercury Redstone Rocket Kit, by Revell. WOW, a VERY hard-to-find kit from almost 50 years ago(!), released immediately following America's FIRST manned spaceflight!! This splendid 1/110 scale plastic model kit bears all of the usual touches that Revell was famous for...the highly-detailed rocket comes with the "Freedom 7" Mercury capsule, a square launchpad base, figures of NASA ground crew workers, vehicle, radar equipment, etc. Kit has been started (including some painting on base and fuselage) and one rocket fin has a clipped tip, but is otherwise unassembled and COMPLETE with PERFECT-QUALITY decal sheet, insert booklets and instructions. Box is in PERFECT condition. On May 5, 1961 Alan Shepard was launched 116 miles into space riding this rocket...the purpose of the 15-minute (!) mission was to study how man reacted entering space and then returning back to Earth. Kind of like being placed on the tip of a Roman candle...he had the Right Stuff! I mean, think of it...before Shepard there had just been some chimps, dogs and a Russian! This historic kit (Revell #1832) is a rarity and even though it is not in "perfect" condition you will probably not find another one of these on ebay or elsewhere. A GENUINE piece of America's history, from the infancy of manned spaceflight. Actual rocket would finish out to 10" tall. Out of stock.
