National Geographic 1943/10
[RARE]
$25.00

National Geographic from October, 1943. A great Wartime issue! Articles on "India - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" by Lord Halifax, "The Heraldry of Heroism" (litho COLOR section with every medal awarded by the armed services depicted...a great reference for military buffs), "Women in Uniform" (can't wait for the follow-up!), "Through Paraguay and Southern Matto Grosso", "Color Cruising in Paraguay", and "Burma: Where India and China Meet". Printed on the top of the front cover is the mantra of the 40's, "Buy US War Savings Bonds and Stamps". Wonderful ads within, as usual...including the classic Boeing ad with an actual photo of a B-17 with its tail almost completely shot off, still flying, entitled "No Achilles Heel". The B-17 also appears in the ad for Studebaker, providing the engines for the mighty bombers. Pennsylvania Railroad, Pullman Cars, Dictaphone, Bell Telephone...if you look at this as Mr. Pop Top does, it's all a glimpse at a world that no longer exists! And, of course, the back cover with another ad for Coca Cola, this time set in Alaska with Army troops extolling the virtues of baseball and sugary drinks to the local Eskimos "From Atlanta to the Seven Seas, Coca Cola has become the high-sign between kindly-minded strangers, the symbol of a friendly way of living". This issue of Geographic is firmly-bound with but a few blemishes and a small patch of spine-wear to keep it from being in Fine condition...a real look through a window to the past! Only one in stock.
