Space Shuttle "Columbia", by Vogue-Star. Here is a nifty early Space Shuttle toy from 1984, MINT IN BOX, UNPLAYED. The "Columbia" was USA's first Space Shuttle, her maiden launch being in 1981. Her success on those early NASA missions brought her ill-fated sister ship "Challenger" into the program. For years, these two were NASA's backbone, running research missions, assisting in Space Station construction, Hubble Telescope construction, etc. "Columbia" was returning to earth after another successful research mission on February 1, 2003, when she began to break apart upon re-entry...and seven astronauts lost their lives in a hellish inferno...what was to become known as the "Columbia" Disaster. This toy came out in happier times when "Columbia" was only 3 years into her career...and was the pride of the nation. It is battery-powered and moves about the floor with "bump 'n go mystery action". It has an opening cargo bay which reveals a spinning satellite! It also features blinking lights and (rather unfortunately in light of what later happened) glows in the dark. Here is a real piece of pop-culture from a quarter-century ago. Box dimensions 10" x 5". Only one in stock.
