(Sorry, out of stock...SOLD for $145) Historama Kit "The Battle of Iwo Jima" by MPC. From 1970 comes this scarce kit; a diorama in a box. The Historama series of MPC model kits portrayed different famous battles, complete with 1/72 scale toy soldiers, vehicles, boats, etc. and instructions on how to make and paint a paper-mache base to display them all as historical tableau. The Battle of Iwo Jima was fought starting February 19, 1945 to retake a strategic Pacific island which had become overrun by Japanese soldiers...in this case 21,000 of them. Two US Marine divisions braved the lopsided odds and prevailed in one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, immortalized by the late Joe Rosenthal's famous flag-raising photos, Felix DeWeldon's dramatic "Iwo Jima Memorial" statue in Arlington, Virginia...and Clint Eastwood's great "Flags of our Fathers" movie. This highly-detailed UNBUILT kit includes 47 HO scale US Marines (Airfix figures), a Buffalo Landing Craft, Jeep, and manned rubber raft. This kit is intact with all of its original parts, figures, rubber treads and printed inserts: frameable Iwo Jima battle map and history, "Made in England" tags, instructions...the box is in very good shape for its age and rarity. It just doesn't get any better than this for the wartime model enthusiast! Box dimensions 5" x 11". Out of stock.
