Original 1976 "Slime" Toy (Mattel) *SOLD*
[RARE]
$35.00

(Sorry, out of stock...SOLD for $35.00) Original 1976 "Slime" Toy, from Mattel. Here it is, Poptoppers, the toy that started it all...SLIME! First of the great "gross-out toys", of which there are now many. Before Slime came out there were just a few items that touched on the periphery of sick humor and all things foul...mostly from the infamous Johnson Smith catalog, so prominent with full-page ads in all of the comic books of the day. Of course, there was the famous Whoopee Cushion which goes back to 1930 (Depression brings out the best in creativity, don't you think?) Remember Onion Gum? How about rubber dog poops? Black-out Soap? Plastic vomit? The Finger Guillotine? All things that would fascinate your average 9-year-old boy. In 1976, Mattel hit one out of the park...a puke-green mixture of guar gum and borax that came packaged in its own individual trash can: SLIME! This sickening concoction was cold and clammy to the touch and felt terrible on your skin (or the skin of your unsuspecting victim!) And, as if it wasn't enough to have a gloppy substance to do any number of strange things with...you could shove your fist into the full can of Slime to produce horribly realistic, wet, rude, flatulent noises! Slime predated the current gross-out toy hit "Flarp" by close to thirty years. How many of these toys were confiscated in Junior High School back in the 70's, Mr. Pop Top wonders? How many kids were sent straight to the Principal's office after disrupting Miss Crabtree's Geometry class with an earth-shattering ripper as she bent over for the chalk? One will never know. Slime became part of our Pop Culture, immortalized by Nickelodeon TV game shows and of course the "Ghostbusters" movies ("I've been slimed!!"). Here is the real deal, the first incarnation of this ground-breaking toy, from over 30 years ago. Just think, this came out when America was gearing up for a Summer of three-corner hats, fifes and drums for the overblown Bicentennial Celebration. That's a long time ago, gang! Our Slime can from 1976 is in PERFECT condition, although the original substance within has now shriveled into a disgusting hard lump. Yes...it's all still in there. Yecch. Grossing us out to this very day. A prize piece of Pop Culture...SLIME!!!! You just have to think, that there probably aren't too many of these still around today...who would save a can of Slime? Mr. Pop Top, that's who. Lucky you for finding this website. Out of stock.
