National Geographic 1960/11
[RARE]
$15.00

National Geographic Magazine from November 1960. Another TERRIFIC issue from the end of Geographic's golden era...articles on "Triton Follows Magellan's Wake", "Prince Henry, the Explorer that Stayed Home" (sounds like one of those old "Wonderful World of Disney" TV show episode titles...seems like every week it was something like "Harry, the Horse that thought he was a Raccoon"!), "The Hummingbirds" (great photos), "Old Big Strong: The Lower Mississippi" ("tote dat barge, lift dat bale, you gets a little drunk and you lands in jail"), and "Mardi Gras in New Orleans" (back when it was all about "elegant ball gowns" and "costumes"...what the hell happened?). Splendidly illustrated and written issue, in VF condition. Insert map is absent. Chock full of old ads for Bell Telephone, the 3M "Thermo Fax" machine (just imagine...being able to COPY DOCUMENTS!!!), Kodak's sound-recordable 8mm movie projector (Father watches on as Kitten prattles into the microphone during "Family Movie Night"...*yawwnn*...), Honeywell's "Futuramic II Strobonar Electronic Flash" ("the most EXCITING flash unit ever made!" if you can believe this ad...and Mr. Pop Top doesn't), the old Panagra Airways' DC-8 Jets to South America ("Cut your travel time in half" it states...perhaps they shoved you out of the door with a parachute instead of all of that unecessary time wasted "landing" and everything), the "NEW!!! 1961 CHEVROLET" (freshly streamlined to garner, maybe, 8 miles per gallon), a GEICO ad screams "save as much as $30 out of each $100 you now spend on automobile insurance" (yes, they had the same sales pitch 45 years ago, long before that Gecko showed up), and much, much more. Magazine dimensions 10" x 7". Only one in stock.
