National Geographic 1956/9

$20.00

National Geographic Magazine from September 1956.. A wonderful example of National Geographic magazine in the 1950's...articles on "Our Green Treasury, the National Forests", "Progress and Pageantry in Changing Nigeria", "Gifts for the Jaguar God", "Kitimat-Canada's Aluminum Titan" (and you thought that a Kitimat went under the litterbox!), "Philmont Scout Ranch Helps Boys Grow Up", and "The Diffident Truffle, France's Gift to Gourmets". Splendidly illustrated and written issue, in VG-F condition with some minor edge wear. Insert map ("in ten colors") of the United States is included. Plenty of old ads for Sheaffer Pens, the new Bell Systems Solar Energy Cell (ahead of its time), Nikon, Budd train cars (with Leslie Ragan artwork), the legendary Zenith Trans-Oceanic radio (oh, how Mr. Pop Top wishes he had one of those!), visit South Africa "Land of Contrast" (boy, it sure was! Just ask Nelson Mandela), Sinclair Gas, Southern Railway, Canadian Pacific ocean liners, and many more. Naked-native collectors will enjoy page 353, with two shaved-head Nigerian ladies thrusting long, hard, pole-shaped mortars into a small, round pestle (those Nat Geo photogs knew what they were doing...SELLIN' MAGAZINES!!). And, lastly, there's a great picture of the 26'-tall "Smokey Bear" statue at International Falls, Minnesota on page 307!! Wooo hooo!! Magazine dimensions 10" x 7". Only one in stock.
