Original "Millenios" Cereal Box (General Mills)
[RARE]
$35.00

Original "Millenios" Cereal Box, from General Mills. Ahh, Poptoppers...the year 2000 seems so long ago, doesn't it? Pre-Recession, pre-9/11, pre-gas prices through the roof. A happier time it was...and we didn't even know it...filled with the terror of the coming "Y2K Bug" that was to send us back into the Stone Age by shutting down our computers and our commerce and our infrastructure and our power grid and thus ending civilization as we know it. Didn't happen. And now, what are you going to do with all of those jugs of drinking water? Anyway, Mr. Pop Top just setting the mood here for this delectable item in the Shop...an original Millenios box!! Millennios were introduced by none other than America's Oldest Teenager, Dick Clark, with a "New Year's Rockin' Eve"-style ball-drop ceremony in Times Square; beautiful downtown NYC. "I can't think of a better place than Times Square to introduce the cereal created by General Mills to celebrate the new millennium," said Dick. As the suspense mounted, the throngs gathered around Mr. Clark. Then the count-down began: 10...9...(may God have mercy on us all)...8...7...(oooh, I can't stand it!)...6...5...4...(this was in Revelations, wasn't it? or maybe Nostradamus??)...3..2...1 and....the ball opened while confetti showered down to reveal **MILLENIOS**!!! Yes, all that for a cereal box! What a product launch. The cereal itself, Mr. Pop Top recalls, was a lightly-sweetened Cheerios mixed with "number 2's" so that one could infinitely spell out "2000" in their bowl as they ate. This display-quality box is in great condition (original contents of foodstuffs no longer inside. Do you really want 10+ year-old food in your house? How far are you going to take this "collecting" thing, anyway? Yecch!). The box is a real joy for all of those into history/pop culture...on the side are listed "Millenios Predictions" for the coming decade, one of which *NAILS IT* on the Red Sox finally winning the World Series!! And, oh yes, there are predictions regarding our first female President ("missed it by that much", to quote Don Adams), suits that allow you to fly, the end of the Dollar Bill, and more. The back of the box tells kiddies how they can make a "Millenios Time Capsule" from this very box, stuffing it with mementos and salting it away under your bed, until some lucky archeologist finds it in 20,000 years. This cereal was marked with an embossed gold seal as a "Limited Edition", and was only marketed from September 1999 until January 2000. The box is eye-catching, being the first cereal box to use special metalic ink, giving it an almost hologram-like effect when walking past it down the aisle at Safeway. How could you resist? Can you justify not buying this? There is that lovely "add to cart" button right there, just an inch or so away on your screen. Go ahead, you know you want it...just move the cursor down and over and...click!! Only one in stock.
