(Sorry, out of stock...SOLD for $125.00) Dornier Do-X Flying Boat Kit, by Revell. This INCREDIBLE kit from 1984 is a modeler's dream...German Revell/Ceji's 1/144 scale Dornier Do-X, MINT-IN-BOX, PARTS STILL TREED, SEALED IN FACTORY BAG with all inserts and decal sheet intact!! The German aircraft company Dornier made this "Flying Boat" in 1929, two years after Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic proved that air travel to Europe and back was indeed possible. Dornier dreamed that this huge aircraft would become a trans-oceanic airliner with passengers traveling in ocean liner-like luxury. A tour of South and North American was conducted, but orders never materialized due to excessive fuel consumption and a lack of power...this baby had TWELVE ENGINES!! Total load was 170 passengers and crew, and the 12 engines, mounted fore and aft, developed 7200 HP. Boeing's flying "Clippers" (with their four...just four...QUIETER engines) soon took over the market for such aircraft. This is a HARD-TO-FIND kit in any incarnation; this is the original from a quarter-century ago, as shiny and new as if it were still on the shelf at your local hobby store (explanation for the younger generation: there were actually, in the olden days, physical stores that you could go to and find model kits, Cox gas engine planes, Lionel trains, Matchbox cars, etc....long before the internet came along and all the hobby stores became a memory). A simply stunning kit by any standards. Out of stock.
