Another GREAT model kit from days of yore...this time a Curtiss C-46 Twin-Engine Transport plane in 1/72 scale. The obscure Williams Bros. kits were meticulously-detailed with every bolt showing in the gloriously sculpted plastic. Williams Bros., a California hobby company founded in 1960, were known for their scholarly instructions and historical research...they are still in business today (as opposed to many of their larger competitors back then), which shows you that quality rules over quantity. The box on this RARE kit states: "Suggested for experienced model builders"...which tended to separate the men from the boys! This kit from 40 years ago features alternate propellers, two types of tires, and decals for various versions, including one for this plane's days with the Nationalist Chinese Air Force back in the 1940's! Talk about obscure!! These C-46's were instrumental in carrying cargo in the Pacific and Asia during World War II and the Korean War (errr, "Police Action"...for those "politically-correct"). This is an historic, and beautiful, airplane. The price? It is worth it for the box-top art alone...with the streamlined C-46 cutting through the clouds in all of her chromed glory.
