"Dark Shadows" Jigsaw Puzzle (Whitman) *SOLD*
[RARE]
$65.00

(Sorry, out of stock...SOLD for $65.00) "Dark Shadows" Jigsaw Puzzle, by Whitman. From over 40 years ago comes this *GREAT* puzzle...MINT and UNOPENED!! Two "Dark Shadows" Jigsaw Puzzles were made by Whitman in 1969, each containing 1,200 pieces. Though they were sold separately, they both have THE SAME catalog number, to confuse and annoy hardcore collectors! What a pain in the neck. This puzzle offered in The Pop Top Shop today is the one depicting the vampire Barnabas Collins and one of his lady friends taking a romantic stroll through the catacombs. Speaking of pains in the neck. I can hear "I Want to Bite Your Hand" from that great Gene Moss comedy album of the same era ringing in my head to this day. It was 1969 and vampires were *IN*. Barnabas Collins was one of the coolest...hey, he was on TV every afternoon on ABC. But then Count Yorga came along and...but I digress. "Dark Shadows" was a ground-breaking horror soap-opera that opened the door for all of the other horror soap operas. "The Young and the Lifeless", "General Morgue", "Days of Our Deaths", "All My Werewolves", "The Guiding Knife"...hey...wait a minute...there aren't any other horror soap operas. Hmmmm. Anyway, this show ran for five years in ABC's late-afternoon block and became a cult favorite, especially amongst high-school girls just getting home and rushing in to catch "DS". My favorite thing watching this show with my older sister and brother was to look for wobbly sets after door-slams, strings that operated the bats, etc. It was a great show for that as it played to your imagination more than the budget allowed. And, oh yes, just about every episode had a glimpse of the cameraman in some scene which had a mirror on the wall. And tell me, whose job was it to everyday run around Collinwood Mansion and light all of those hundreds of candle-sconces on the walls in every nook and cranny? And keep them lit?? And change out the candles??? Ahhh, Dark Shadows. (A little known fact: the building shown as "Collinwood" in every episode is a REAL house, the Carey Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island...still standing to this very day despite all of the paranormal activity surrounding it.) "Dark Shadows" had THE most haunting theme music in all of television history, decomposed by Robert Cobert. These Whitman puzzles are difficult to locate now, especially unopened and in pristeen condition as this one is. Make it yours. Out of stock.
