1966 RARE First Version "Seaview" Submarine Kit (Aurora)
[RARE]
$235.00

Original 1966 "Seaview" Submarine Kit, from Aurora. INCREDIBLY OBSCURE first issue "long box" version of this kit from almost 60 years ago. From Irwin Allen's hit ABC-TV show "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" comes the futuristic submarine, the "Seaview". First seen in the 1961 feature film of the same name, starring Walter Pidgeon and Peter Lorre...with the title song crooned by none other than Frankie Avalon, who also appeared in the film. Seaview was a nuclear-powered super sub that could go anywhere and withstand just about anything. Including a giant squid or the like just about weekly...every Sunday night, to be exact. With lots of sputtering computer-light-paneled walls and actors going back and forth as the sub "rocked" under the tentacles of the electrified giant octopus. Or space monster. Or something. And there was often an "enemy agent" in the plot, stowed away, trying to sabotage the super sub. The Cold War raged, even on TV. Yet each week we watched 'cause it was a totally cool show! It ran for 4 years, making it the longest-running non-anthology science fiction series in network TV history. Mr. Pop Top did not miss an episode of this show when he was a kid. This kit is COMPLETE, box in SUPERB shape with GREAT cover art, instructions included. Kit has been partially started but nothing major (two hull halves were once connected and now are neatly back as they were)...THIS IS A SCARCE, SCARCE, SCARCE KIT, my friends!! While many of Aurora's molds were sold off to other companies in the mid-1970's, rumor has long held that the Seaview molds were DESTROYED in a train accident shortly after the demise of Aurora, and this version of this kit was NEVER REISSUED after 1975. Hence it's become a holy grail for model collectors and baby boomers who likely received it as a birthday present when they were kids in the mid '60s!! We have but this one in stock...make it yours!!
