National Geographic 1933/8
[RARE]
$25.00

National Geographic Magazine from August 1933. Another example of the greatness that was National Geographic in the 1930's...articles on "The Aerial Conquest of Everest", "Afield with the Spiders", "Nature's Ingenious Spinners", "California Trapdoor Spider Performs Engineering Marvels" (featuring a classic photo of a guy covered in spiders!), "Freiburg - Gateway to the Black Forest", and "Time-Mellowed Germany" (I guess the writers didn't see the smoke coming from the Reichstag down the street!). Splendidly illustrated and written issue, in VG condition with some minor edge wear. Map is absent. This spidery issue of National Geographic would be the perfect gift for that arachnaphobic friend of yours! Plenty of old ads for steamship lines, railways, and one for the "new Plymouth Six" which had a pricetag of $445! And, Coke fans the classic early ad for Coca-Cola on the back cover was only the third(!) Coke ad done for Geographic, predating all of the Santas and winking chippies yet to come in their long advertising relationship. The poor caffeine-starved man depicted is in need of, as the ad states, "a very particular kind of drink - combining those pleasant wholesome substances which foremost scientists say do most in restoring you to your normal self". Mmmmm, yummy! Where's my white lab coat? And my Petri dish?? Magazine dimensions 10" x 7". Only one in stock.
