Heavy Metal #4, from HM Communications. Hey gang! Here's a VF-MINT early copy of the legendary Heavy Metal magazine from July 1977. Heavy Metal was an acquired taste, and a title that didn't exactly find its target audience for a while. Was it for teenage sci-fi fans? Was it for adults? It was on newsstands at 7-11 right there next to Playboy and Penthouse. The Slurpeejerks didn't seem to know where to display Heavy Metal, sometimes it was positioned down lower next to the chopper and bodybuilding magazines! Oh well...it was a bit of a forbidden fruit in those days. They were always full of brilliant artwork...this issue, the fourth in the series, boasts Chantal Montellier, Philippe Druillet, Moebius (!), Gal, Philippe Dionnet, Enki Bilal, Richard Corben (!!), Bihanic, Dan O’Bannon, Voss, Walter Perry, the celebrated Vaughn Bode, and Gary Davis! The writing was always strong, thoughtful...and strange. Heavy Metal was well onto developing its cult following by this 1977 issue. Only one in stock.
