Iron Man #1, by Marvel Comics. Yes, you read it right, the FIRST ISSUE of Iron Man from May 1968. This linchpin of any "Silver-Age" comic book collection is in VF condition (these are hard to find in this condition due to the heavy use of dark ink on the cover making them unusually vulnerable to the ravages of time.) Created by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber (Stan's brother), Iron Man was in reality Tony Stark, a millionaire industrialist (not-so-loosely based on Howard Hughes) who creates an iron suit for himself with super powers after he is severely injured while being forced to create a doomsday weapon. He decides to use his incredible strength for good...and the rest is history. This issue of Iron Man has had the rare honor of being turned into a 41 cent US Postage Stamp in 2007. The mega-hit movie version of "Iron Man" starring Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark came out in 2008, and did $100,000,000.00 in the first weekend of release!!! Through his comic book incarnation, he has sometimes been a member of The Avengers, and Tony Stark has been involved with S.H.I.E.L.D. recently. He has gone through a few suit-design changes through the years (an early clunky bullet-shaped suit, reminiscent of a walking iron lung, was short lived), and Mr. Pop Top recalls that there was also an unfortunate and thankfully brief time period in the 70's during which Iron Man had a nose! He now looks more like he should, again, noseless and oh so very cooool. Don't miss this important INVESTMENT-GRADE RARITY! Looking at the price? A copy of this comic in the same condition recently sold for TWICE AS much on ebay! Only one in stock.
